Fibi on the Road

La la la la la...what a life! I don't know what I was thinking! If you didn't know me you wouldn't think that I miss Mama at all. I remember when she was by my side every single minute. We were inseparable! Stopping to gas up in Vegas. We're almost into California. What a whirlwind ride! Left yesterday at 7pm and now it's almost 4pm. It's a good thing I don't take up much space...just a quick cat nap...ha ha ha.

California or Bust!

Yesterday, I left on an adventure. I'm on my way to California (I currently live in Colorado) ...not that I planned it. My Mama didn't want to kennel me for 2 weeks so I will be staying with my brother while Mama's away on a cruise. There should be pet-friendly cruises. There are pet-friendly hotels why not cruises? Aren't pets part of the family? I felt so sad when I left. I could see Mama standing in the driveway waving goodbye. I sure hope she doesn't miss me as much as I miss her already. Mama's the best...I'm sure everyone says this about their master but she really is. I'll explain later.

Isn't life ironic?

Hello sweetie! That's what an old lady said to me, Fibi...remember I'm the dog. I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. While I was out for a walk with my mama an older couple was approaching. I could see that my mama smiled at the couple but without missing a step the old lady said to me, Fibi, Hello Sweetie! She didn't even bother to look at my mama. What's wrong with this picture? People go "ga ga" over a dog but they don't have the courtesy to be kind to humans! That's just beyond the pale!

Snip Snip

I'm scarred for life! I am now 6 months old and it was "that" time...time to go and get sterilized. My mama had me spayed because it's the right thing to do. She loves me and doesn't want me to be having litter after litter like so many irresponsible people out there. It's kinda sad though 'cause I'll never have any puppies of my own. But I'm loved and I have a great home! So here I am...in pain! I'm back from the Vet's office. My mama takes me to the Animal Medical Center, Inc. in Van Nuys. They're wonderful...the doctors and office staff are so nice. (But I digress!) Not only do I look ridiculous in this contraption but it's sooo uncomfortable. And I feel worse than I look...I'm such a trooper! See y'all later...Fibi.

It's Time For A Nap

Hi, there! It's me, Fibi. Thor and I are worn out so we're going to take a short break. But we hope that you will enjoy the following article. It makes some very salient points. Well, talk to you later!

Whose dog is it anyway? By: Jonethan Bass So, it's seven o'clock in the morning under gray skies and pounding rain, and you're out there pounding the pavement with the family dog so he can do his business. Leash in one hand, plastic bag in the other; you move along slowly as the cold rain seeps down the back of your neck. Meanwhile, your dog doesn't seem to care about the weather, he's just enjoying the smells.

I'm sure you have experienced this! Your dog does not focus on what humans say - it is what they do that matters as well as how they say things. Just because someone claims to be the dog's owner it doesn't necessarily mean it's true to him.

In almost every case the dog is going to bond with the person who takes care of them. Dogs see who feeds them; they see who gets up groggy in the dark and rain to take them out. They even see who cleans up the mess they leave behind. He will notice who feeds him and brushes him.

Keep this in mind if you are getting a dog as a pet for your child - the dog is not going to bond with the child if you feed and groom and spend time with him but instead he will think you are his owner.

Remember the story of Lassie and his boy? They were inseparable. Just like owner and dog should be. If your child is not going to take the time to bond with his pet, his pet is not going to take the time to bond with him!

This is why everybody in the household must make sure they will take time to care for the dog before getting one! If he is just tolerated by a child, that is all the dog will do to him - tolerate!

My ears! My ears!

What happened to my ears? As you can see by my photo I haven't quite grown into my ears. I used to have one floppy ear and one that stood straight up. But I've noticed that now they both stick straight up! I think floppy ears are so much cuter. What do you think? And what's with that pacifier? I'm a dog! But still, how cute!

My First Boo Boo

One day I was sniffing around in my back yard. I like to explore so I stick my nose into everything. Well, that's how I ended up getting my first boo-boo. I caught a bee in my mouth. Next thing you know my snout begins to swell and swell and swell. I didn't even recognize myself! By the end of the day I was pretty much back to normal. The next time I go outside I won't be in such a rush to go and greet a bee. I'll just admire them from afar...hee hee hee!

How to do Dog Training in easy steps - By: JohnJames

The reasons why puppies chew on your lovely bathroom slippers a time is because they are teething. Teething in babies produces pretty much the same desire to chew in dogs. Teething dogs usually chew on things to help them with the itching sensation it produces.

Don’t make the mistake of waiting till your dog grows up a bit before you start training them because grown up dogs are usually hard to train. Puppies that aren’t trained before they get to a particular age may not be pliable to training. You need to make sure that you start training your puppy at the right time to prevent frustrations.

A dog can send out a variety of signals to its handler and it is up to the handler to receive and interpret those signals properly. Misreading the signals that your dog sends to you during its training can bungle the training up. A dog can signal non-verbally to you that it is unsure, afraid, tired or nervous.

Some dog trainers make the mistake of bribing their dogs to respond to their commands. If your dog gets used to getting a treat before responds to your commands well, it will not perform a command unless a treat is there. Giving treats to your dog should not be an everyday affair in order to prevent the risk of bribery.

In dog training, timing is of the essence. You cannot hope to train your dog when it is already tired. Strive to put a finger on the pulse of time while training your dog so that you will know when to back down and when to be forceful with it.

Always reward your dog for positive behavior and punish it for bad behavior. Your dog should be able to know the difference between good behavior and bad behavior as dictated by you. Basically, a dog only knows what you want it to know in the course of training.

It requires a lot of patience to train a dog. Training a dog involves repeating a particular command until the dog gets it. If you don’t have enough patience to train your dog, turn it over to a dog trainer.

Don’t forget that a dog is different from us in its communicative modes and needs to be treated patiently for it to understand you. If you are a particularly impatient person, training your dog may turn out to be a total fiasco.
